The Journeymen Program is a demanding 10-week process designed to introduce potential new members to Delta Omicron Zeta and strengthen their abilities as leaders.

Through weekly meetings and outside leadership, service, and social events, Journeymen are challenged to think critically, to work effectively in groups, and to reflect on their personal growth.

During each meeting, Journeymen participate in group challenges that refine skills in specific areas of leadership.

Whether the meeting focuses on understanding personality types, operating with unmotivated followers, leading your friends, communicating effectively, or solving a difficult problems, each week Journeymen have the opportunity to discover the strengths and weaknesses in their own approaches by by contrasting these with the strategies employed by others.

Beyond weekly meetings, Journeymen have the opportunity to bond in locations away from campus.

The group and its educators participate in events such as the DOZ Leadership Speaker Series, service trips, off campus leadership challenges, two retreats and social events such as Big Sib Night and Invite.

Entering DOZ members also have the unique opportunity to sit down and chat with every single active member on an individual basis.

These interviews facilitate learning from established student leaders and bring the fraternity far beyond a club status to its presence as a strongly bonded family.

Armed with leadership experience and a loving host of new friends, Journeymen become initiated into Delta Omicron Zeta once successfully completing the Journeyman semester.

Each new class then transitions to active life by applying all they have learned to their involvement at USC and continuing to grow through the active Luminary Program.

What do the most recent Journeymen have to say about their semester? Hear it from them.

“The journeyman process was hands down one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in college so far. It was an introspective semester for me – I really got a chance to take a step back and take a critical look at who I am as well as how I relate to and work with others. I learned so many valuable lessons from my interviews with the actives, and I loved the opportunity to get to know my fellow journeymen. Although it was intense and at times overwhelming, I found my experience to be extremely rewarding. I’ll always be a journeyman at heart.”
— Amanda Tran, Zeta Class

“My journeymen semester was my most challenging and gratifying semester of my USC experience thus far, an experience which has shaped who I am, and made me realize how much I can give back to the USC student community. So if you’re thinking about it, stop thinking and start doing – you won’t regret it.”
